Overview

✔ FSSAI license renewal is the process of extending the validity of a license or registration issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

✔ Timely renewal is essential to avoid penalties, fines, or disruption in business operations, and to legally continue running a food-related business.

✔ The renewal fee varies based on the type of license—State or Central—and the size and scale of the food business.

When to apply for Renewal of license?

Food Business Operators (FBOs) must submit their FSSAI registration or license renewal application at least 30 days before the license expiry date.

Renewal applications can be filed up to 120 days in advance of the expiration date.

If the renewal application is submitted within 30 days prior to expiry but before the license expires, a late fee of ₹100 per day of delay will be applicable.

Non Renewal of FSSAI Registration/License

✔ Cessation of Operations:

The food business must immediately halt all operations once the FSSAI license or registration expires.

✔ Legal Action:

Operating without a valid FSSAI license can lead to legal enforcement, including fines and other penalties.

✔ Reputation Damage:

Failure to renew the license may harm the business’s reputation, leading to loss of customer trust and credibility.

✔ Future Licensing Challenges:

A history of non-renewal can make it difficult for the business to obtain FSSAI registration or licenses in the future.

✔ To avoid these risks, it is crucial to renew the FSSAI license on time.
